Prof. Johnson Oluwasola Agbede, the current Head of Department of Animal Production and Health, is a product of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria and a Professor of Agricultural Biochemistry & Nutrition since 2010 with a strong background in Nutritional Biochemistry, Food Science & Product Quality Assurance through dietary manipulations. His research interests also include Biotechnological enhancement and the utilization of poor quality food/feed resources such as agro-industrial byproducts & farm “wastes”' in animal feeding and, Germplasm development & quality enhancement to promote Food & Nutrition securities. His interests in alternative foods/feeds resources relate to their nutritive characteristics, anti-quality/bioactive components, physio-pathological, phyto-chemicals, gut morphology and economic implications of their dietary inclusion essentially in poultry, pig and rabbit diets.

Prof. Agbede is a Grants Master with considerable experience in individual and multi-disciplinary PROBLEM-ORIENTED /NEED-DRIVEN project design, implementation and monitoring in Food/Agricultural, Health & allied researches at both national and international levels. He served on NUC Strategy Advisory Committee (STRADVCOM) to review the instruments for NUC Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Part-time and ODL accreditation from January to March, 2019.

Among his academic distinctions are: a winner of the maiden National University Commission (NUC) Central Research Scheme grant winner, FUTA Senate Research Grant, a 3-time winner of TETFund Research grants. Internationally, he has also won both research and travelling grants; a MASHAV grant recipient to participate in International course on Dairy cattle production, Centre for International Agricultural Development Cooperation (CINADCO) Shefayim, Israel in 2003, winner of African Academy of Sciences, Nairobi, Kenya ($13,000.00), key player in 2011 STEP-B Research Grant, a World Bank assisted project on Centre of Excellence for Food Security worth $4,499,696.87 (N674,996,530.00), recipient of grant from FAO UN to attend International Network for Family Poultry and Development and XXIV World’s Poultry Congress, Salvador – Bahia, Brazil, Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants ($5000), Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellowship at the Martin – Luther Universität, Halle (Saale), Germany -2007-2008 and Cited in CTA Spore, Netherlands as a Reputable Nigerian Scientist, pp.8 No 114, 2004 among others. He belongs to several national and international.

He belong to many Professional Organizations including the Society for Animal Production of Nigeria, Poultry Science Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Animal Science of Nigeria, Animal Science Association of Nigeria, World Poultry Science Association, Netherlands, Deutch Poultry Science Association (der Deutschen Vereinigung fur Geflügelwissenschaft (e.V), of Germany, International Network for Family Poultry and Development (INFPD) and Shalom Club, Israel. He is the current Director, Central Research Laboratory and a Member of the Governing Council, FUTA. He had served and still serving as Chairman or member of many Committees/Board in the University, supervised 13 PhDs and 27 Masters students and has to his credit over 100 published scholar papers in books, highly reputable journals and referred proceedings.

He is married to Mrs. Ajoke Bolanle Agbede – a Nurse and blessed with 3 children.
